1114M Premium Craft Crank
For handbuilding large items with other clays to provide ‘tooth’ this
coarse textured open but plastic clay is unsurpassed. Refractory and
nicely toasted colour (speckled orange-brown under reduction). Ball
clay based with several specially graded grogs exclusively
manufactured by us. Low shrinkage. This is the original crank but to
a revised recipe and remains easily the best crank body made despite
many attempts at substitutes.

This body was amended from May 1998 to give improved resistance to 
lime popping and efflorescence problems. This caused the fired colour to be possibly slightly different under certain firing 
conditions but other properties, including its superb handbuilding performance, remained the same.
Stoneware body giving good resilience and high firing
capability. All ball clay base gives a smoother textured, plastic and 
good-natured crank. Also suitable for salt glazing.
