Introduction to Mayco Brush-on Glazes Mon 17 May (Schools*)
Tues 18 May (Contemporary Studios*)
A fun and informative full-day "hands-on" workshop presented by a specialist tutor from Mayco Colors who will be travelling from the USA to introduce a myriad of techniques and surface effects and demonstrate the correct application of our wide range of Mayco brush-on glazes. Let your creativity run free with a series of specially planned projects. You are very welcome to take home your finished pieces at the end of the day. As this is a very popular course, we highly recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment.
*Monday's course will consist of projects aimed at education (Schools etc.) and so will be ideal for teachers. Tuesday's course will offer projects aimed at Contemporary Studios and Ceramic Cafés. However, everyone is welcome to either course.
 
Introduction to Brush-on Glazes
Raku with John Wheeldon Tues 8 June
A full day course hosted by internationally renowned raku artist, John Wheeldon, incorporating demonstrations and plenty of hands-on opportunities. The course will cover glaze preparation and application, kiln firing and advice on kiln construction. Please book now as places are limited due to the intensity and content of the course. Pots for glazing will be provided, but please feel free to bring one or two of your own small low-fired (920°C bisque) pots if you wish. Please also ensure that flat, closed shoes are worn.

TWO DAY COURSE Sculpture with Neil Dalrymple Mon 19 & Tues 20 July
Following the success of last year's two-day course, we have decided to repeat it for 2010. An interesting, informative and fun course beginning with a step-by-step demonstration on how to create a form using the clay slab technique and hand modelling. There will be an opportunity to try your hand at sculpting, with guidance from Neil should you need it. Please feel free to bring along your own source material if you wish. Suitable clay bodies, glaze and colouring, and alternative sculpture techniques will be discussed throughout the course. Following the success of last year's two-day courses, we have decided to repeat them for 2010. Hosted by internationally renowned potter, David Frith, the course deals with all aspects of throwing with practical demonstrations and hands-on sessions. This is a very popular course and places are very limited due to the nature of the tuition (max.10 places) so please do book early. If you are losing sleep over conforming with H&S requirements and want help with meaningful Risk Assessments, this seminar is for you. Although aimed at teachers and technicians, it will prove equally valuable to potters and others working in ceramics since it provides a concise appraisal of current health and safety regulations governing the use of ceramic materials, kilns and equipment in schools and workplaces. Guidance is given to enable conformity to these regulations and also COSHH assessment procedures etc.

Covers kiln construction, installation, operation and correct use; repairs and replacement of elements; temperature control; various firing cycles and use of cones; kiln furniture; maintenance and safety considerations.

Basic glaze technology; glaze preparation and adjustment; glaze formulation; typical recipes; mixing; opacifiers; colouring pigments; wax resists; masking techniques etc.; demonstration of glaze application methods and various decorative techniques; glaze firing; firing cycles and faults. An outstandingly popular and useful seminar.
 
 
Information, Fees and Reservations
All seminars will be held at Potclays in Etruria, Stoke on Trent. Seminars will commence promptly at 9.00am and will finish at around 4.00pm. We try to keep group sizes as small as possible to ensure you get the most from your day. A buffet lunch and refreshments are provided: Please advise us of any special dietary requirements well in advance.

Payment Terms
Course fees are payable with the booking. We may however agree to invoice you. We reserve the right to refuse attendance on the course if payment is not received before the course date.
Delegate Substitution
Substitute delegates may be nominated at any time. There is no charge for delegate substitution providing there is no change of course date.
Cancellations by You
If you need to cancel your booking your cancellation must be received in writing at least 14 days before the course date. A full refund will be made of course fees paid. We are unable to process a refund for cancellations received less than 14 days before the date of the course.
Cancellations by Us
It may be necessary due to reasons beyond our control for Potclays Ltd. to cancel a course in which case our liability is limited to a full refund of the course fee.
