Brexit and our European Customers

Posted on - 15th February 2021

Potclays has many years of experience with exporting goods worldwide. Following Brexit there are additional requirements in exporting goods, but we are managing these and successfully delivering our products to overseas customers post-Brexit.

PLACING EU ORDERS ONLINE

To ensure you are receiving the best shipping rates, we hold accounts with several forwarders. Because of this, export shipping prices cannot be calculated automatically online.

Please complete the checkout process and submit payment in Pounds Sterling. Our team will be in touch as soon as possible to confirm the best shipping cost for the applicable Incoterm.

At this point, if you are happy with the quoted shipping cost you may submit payment (required before despatch), or if you would prefer, you may cancel your order for a full refund – no hard feelings!

UK VAT & LOCAL TAXES AND DUTIES FOR EU ORDERS

UK VAT is not applied to the invoice for EU orders unless goods are requested to be supplied Ex-Works. In the latter case, the UK VAT is refunded upon receipt of Proof of Shipment. (Note: UK VAT is applied to orders delivered to Northern Ireland)

The amount of duty applied by your local authority will vary by product type (commodity code) and country of origin. However, at the time of writing (12 February 2021) there are several duty-free allowances: Please contact your local tax authority.

PARCEL SHIPMENTS TO THE EU

Courier rates include customs clearance costs, but local taxes and any applicable duties are payable at the destination by the end user/buyer.

Insurance cover for courier orders (and the associated costs) is dependent on the forwarder used.

PALLET SHIPMENTS TO THE EU

Where the customer requires us to provide sea freight services to port (i.e. not ex-works) we can offer freight via either CIF or CFR Incoterms.

In both cases export customs declarations are included in the shipping quote. Insurance for the goods is included with CIF but not with CFR. Please discuss your required level of insurance with us at point of order.

Import declarations on arrival will need to be completed by the customer. In some cases, our forwarders can undertake this service for a fee. However, you may wish to engage your own customs broker in your country.

Heat treated timber is required for all exports: Charges apply dependent on size/volume/nature of order.
