Premium Air Dry Clay for Models and Crafting
Unleash Your Creativity with Air Drying Clay
Pottery is a perfect arts and crafts hobby to unleash your creative side - and air hardening modelling clay is ideal for beginners and pottery veterans alike. Our Creative Clay™ is an air-drying clay developed using the highest quality materials and is available in grey or red for a terracotta styled finish. This premium clay is a standard potter's modelling clay with the addition of nylon fibres to provide exceptional bonded strength when dry and unfired. Nylon fibres provide excellent bonded strength which reduces brittleness, meaning there is no need to fire your clay in a kiln. For more durable designs, try firing and applying gloss.
Alternatively, our Children's Modelling Clay is an ideal modelling medium for both children and adults. Enjoy crafting sculptures, home decor art pieces, and functional items like pots and dishes or clay decorations. Painting and varnishing clay once dry also offers the chance to decorate and show off artistic skills. Easy-to-use and requiring minimal clean-up, you can enjoy pottery within the comfort of your home or classroom.
Making The Most of Air Drying Modelling Clay
There are a number of ways to make the most of left to dry clay. If you're a beginner looking to produce a number of versatile creations, a starter kit could help you progress quickly. Consider using moulds where possible, and pick up a number of clay tools and modelling tools to assist in the creation process.
Air bubbles can often pose an issue for sculptors - impacting the expected smooth finish of the clay. Kneading the clay can help you to avoid air bubbles, as can steering clear of over-hydrating. Clay should be damp during the moulding process and will appear weak if there is too much moisture, meaning you'll need to let it dry partially before continuing.
To sculpt with air dry clay, consider using aluminium foil to support or reinforce your sculptures. The use of foil or wiring can make sculptures more lightweight and save on the amount of clay you are using. Finish your model with a glaze or acrylic paint for the perfect design.
