Potclays are proud to have been associated with the making of a memorial to organ donors at the Manchester University NHS Trust.
The National Organ Donor Recognition Artwork was opened on the 23 September by the Lord Lieutenant of Manchester and the Manchester Foundation Trust Chairman.
There were speeches by the organ Donor team and families of sons and daughters who were donors and also recipients of transplanted organs.
The project was coordinated by Manchester Foundation Trust’s award-winning arts and health team www.limeart.org.
The memorial consists of eight large tiles made by artist and potter Liam Curtin and glazed with Potclays Tin Glaze 2251. The tiles are inscribed by calligrapher Stephen Raw with the words of a poem, “The Call” specially written by poet John McAuliffe. Ken Shelton, Potclays Technical Consultant was able to assist Liam with technical advice during the development of the project and was invited to attend the opening.
