Front Loading Kiln Range

Our front loading furnaces come in both electric and gas options. An intuitive, easy-to-use controller is supplied with electric kilns, while propane or natural gas is required to run gas options. Both can serve artistic creations and have exceptional firing capability, but each type offers different operational benefits and capacity.

Electric Front Loading Kilns

Our EP and GK front loading kilns use a solid angle iron frame to create a durable and economical build compared to folded steel sheet construction. Featuring an integral stand, ventilated sheet steel panels, a roof vent and a spy hole, these precision kilns are great for firing ceramics and more. Offering a smaller litre capacity compared to gas kilns, these have the advantage of being more compact, making them ideal for educational settings.

Each kiln comes equipped with a standard ST215 Controller with optional WiFi and USB capabilities, providing potters with optimal control of temperature. These front load kilns have a maximum firing temperature expressed in Orton cone numbers - for example 1300°C and cone 10. The kiln requires a full electrical connection and an easy-to-access wall isolator.

Maintaining front loading kilns is simple. Regular interior cleaning, checking of the heating elements and electrical components can ensure your kiln can keep producing crafts long into the future. While people recognise EP and GK kilns for their durability, an annual service can help maintain optimal performance levels.

Gas Front Loading Kilns

Potters recognise gas kilns for their flexibility, allowing greater control of the atmosphere while firing. This control can provide glazing and other surface effects that other firing methods are unable to achieve. Potters utilise gas kilns for unique finishes and the unique, manual experience they provide. These kilns offer the flexibility to fire everything from intricate details to more artisan creations - making them perfect for studio settings.

Typically operating on propane or natural gas, our Thor and Raku gas kilns can reach temperatures ranging between 1280°C and 1350°C and are ideal for firing stoneware and porcelain. Users may need to control the higher temperatures of these front-loading kilns manually, and they must ensure proper ventilation to prevent gas build-up.

Gas kilns require regular maintenance, including the removal of any dust or debris from the interior. Regularly inspect the kiln's burners and gas pipes for wear or damage, and schedule an annual service for the kiln.
