by Nigel Edmondson

Most of Nigel’s work is hand-built using slab construction, coiling and, occasionally, throwing and coiling in combination. Original Craft Crank 153-2114 is used, fired to 1250°C in oxidation. Firing to this temperature ensures that all the work is frost-proof and can safely be left outside all year. Limited use is made of matt glazes with other colour coming from metal oxides and high firing slips. On occasion the work is fired several times to allow for further refinement of the ‘painted’ surface.

Current work includes sculptural and/or functional garden/conservatory pieces and some decorative domestic ware. Some of the most recent output has been large scale work particularly for a garden setting. Surfaces are often textured and much of the work incorporates landscape-based abstraction that reflects and responds in particular to the Lakeland Fells that lie on his doorstep and on which he enjoys walking and climbing.
